Irrigation valves are controlled by a 12-volt solenoid. When power is supplied to the solenoid the inside diaphragm opens and allows water to pass through. Each zone (collection of heads in a certain area of the landscape) will typically be controlled by a single valve.
The systems controller will send power to the multiple valves within the valve manifold (collection of multiple valves) and allow the system to run. The valves manifold/valve box can be considered the “heart” of the irrigation system.
In this course you will learn an overview of valves and manifolds, including the components that make up a valve. You will also be introduced to common approaches to troubleshooting, maintenance, and repair of irrigation system valves.
