Every home running off a city water source or well requires a dedicated sprinkler system shut off valve located in the house. When a new irrigation system is installed, technicians or a contracted plumber install this valve and run plumbing to the exterior of the home for the irrigation system. A device called a backflow preventer also known as a pressure vacuum breaker is installed to ensure water from the outside irrigation system cannot contaminate the home’s potable water source.

Some irrigation systems do not rely on the home’s water source and are run off a pump that feeds water from a nearby lake or pond to the system.

In this course you will learn about the different water sources for an irrigation system and the associated plumbing.
